In Natural Light

A small landscape of color contained within sapphire. Deep ocean blue and teal gather through the center while translucent yellow-green appears along the edges, changing prominence as the stone turns. Against warmer surroundings, its cooler colors become especially vivid, while neutral light reveals the quieter sage, steel blue and aquatic green notes within its natural parti zoning. Completely untreated, the color belongs entirely to the crystal.

The Lapidary’s Eye

Rather than forcing this sapphire into a conventional outline, the cutter followed the character of the rough with an asymmetrical freeform silhouette. Long step facets create broad planes of color and crisp flashes instead of traditional brilliant scintillation, giving the stone an architectural, almost glass-like depth. Its irregular geometry makes every orientation feel slightly different—an intriguing centerpiece for a truly custom setting.
