This spinel does not hold to one shade. In brighter light, vivid ocean blue comes forward; at other angles, greenish teal and subtle purplish tones move through the crystal. Darker reflections add contrast, giving the color a layered, almost electric quality.
The Precision Pear Mixed Cut suits that movement well. Its elongated outline directs the eye from the rounded end toward the point, while the mixed faceting creates alternating areas of brightness and shadow. Rather than presenting a uniform blue, the stone changes character as it turns.
Untreated and sourced from Kiriella, Sri Lanka, its unusual palette remains entirely natural.
Color-shift material is best served by a cut that allows more than one expression of the crystal to remain visible. Here, the pear form preserves the depth of the blue while opening flashes of teal and purple across the crown. The contrast is part of the design, not something to be removed.
